Setting up SSH from a New MachineΒΆ

  1. Generate an SSH key (defaulting to RSA 2048 bits): ssh-keygen
  2. Temporarily enable password login on server by setting PasswordAuthentication yes in /etc/ssh/sshd_config
  3. Restart the SSH server: sudo systemctl restart ssh
  4. Copy public SSH key to server: ssh-copy-id user@ert.space
  5. Disable password login

  • Copying a file via SSH: scp ~/src.file user@ert.space:~/dest/location
